Steel World Confident Strike Can Be Averted
Pittsburgh AP reports optimism across steel firms and unions that a September 1 strike can be avoided as industry negotiations stall over money. Interim contracts expire Aug. 31 and buyers foresee no panic, while union leaders cite cautious optimism and readiness to strike if demands aren’t met. Orders for September show a 20 to 25 percent drop, signaling weak demand amid stalled talks.
