School Aides Mull Future In Low Key In Brief

Corry Area Joint School Committee met quietly last night. Progress on high school repairs was debated with two Likely outcomes: completion by September 8 or possible delay. A vocational technical school in Warren County was discussed with Corry invited to participate. Remodeling of Harding School into administrative offices was postponed. Harding price tag soars for Corry area school remodel

The Corry Area Joint School Committee faced bids far above the $15,000 budget to convert Harding School into admin offices. An Erie firm estimated $24,500 in construction, and a single bid of $31,492 from George Tinko, not including 10 percent architect fees, prompted discussion of cost-cutting, delaying the project, or re-bidding in midwinter.

Resignations Hit Schools As Three More Teach- ers Step Down

Superintendent Thomas R. Shupe reported three more resignations at the committee meeting. Karen D. Wood will leave Wright School for a higher paying similar post in Sandusky, Ohio. Mrs. William Peiffer retires for convalescence, hoping to return in 1966. Mrs. George Pfusch resigns to pursue a master’s degree, with a possible return next February if the post is open. Shupe noted no current applicants for Wood’s vacancy and announced Mrs. Margaret Herberg will return to Wright School in Wood’s place after teaching third grade. Continued on Page Three.

Hayward Driver Wins Monster Race After Pole Crash

A Hayward California driver crashed into a pole at 110 miles per hour and exploded in flame on the sixth lap of the feature event. The driver, who won the event last year, survived and clinched the victory amid the dramatic incident.

Ajax To Build Pumps For New Atomic Plant

Ajax Iron Works of Corry a division of Cooper Bessemer has been tasked to supply an Ajax vertical triplex pump for Westinghouse Atomic Power Division. The stainless steel unit will pressurize a reactor at Haddam Neck Connecticut Yankee plant with six to 30 gpm at 2300 psi and hydrotest at 3750 psi. The plant aims for 490 MW initial capacity and commercial operation in fall 1967.

Jointure approves handicapped transport contract bid

The Jointure Committee approved Leon Proctor’s bid to haul handicapped and trainable children from the Jointure to Erie and Waterford. The plan offers two rates for the Spring Creek pick up, 12 dollars a day or 17 dollars a day, totaling about 5 400 or 6 300 dollars yearly for five children to Waterford and three to Erie, awaiting pickup location decision.

Milk strike talks resume in Pittsburgh area

Contract negotiations aimed at averting a threatened milk strike in the Pittsburgh area resumed yesterday after a three day recess. There was no report on what transpired at the meeting between representatives of Local 205 Milk and Cream Salesmen Drivers and Dairy Employes and the area's five biggest dairy firms.

Seaman admits murder on banana boat Seven Seas

A Cuban seaman aboard the Seven Seas confessed to a murderous rampage that killed five crewmen and possibly the cook during the voyage. One survivor, Elvin Burgwaise, hid for 18 hours in a small chain locker as gunfire erupted aboard the 166 foot ship. Coast Guard reports say Ramirez fled as engines died and the vessel slowed toward Cuba before being towed to Key West.

Contractor Says School Will Open On Time

A Beyer Construction Co spokesperson in Warren denies Corry Area High School will miss its scheduled opening. The firm working on the burned wing asserts occupancy by students will occur on time, with only minor postopening work needed. President Charles Kennedy had warned work delays and urged more labor. The company blames past plastering delays but says progress will quicken now.

Warning to Cyclists Over Noise and Gang Riding

Police chief Drake to day warned riders of motorcycles to pull in their horns and stop causing disturbances in East Irving street area and at a North Center street gas station. Ex Grid Star Slain By Wife In Maryland Shooting

Wilbur J. Moore a former Redskins halfback and longtime backfield coach was shot to death yesterday at his suburban Maryland home in Prince Georges County. His wife Clara Cegelia Moore, 28, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder after a brief argument just before 2 p.m. The shooting occurred in view of bystanders including children, and Moore’s 4 year old son was placed in protective custody by Washington police.

63 Killed By Missile Silo Blast

A Titan 1 missile launching silo in Seary Arkansas suffered a deadly explosion and fire. Six more bodies were found, raising the death toll to six percent of the civilian workers in the underground complex. Rescue teams worked through the night as air force crews evacuated survivors and recovered bodies from the 155 foot silo.

Battle to relieve Buc Co camp drains Viet Cong forces

In a major action near Duc Co along Route 19 a government force of about 12 U.S. advisers and 150 South Vietnamese and mountain tribesmen fought toward the besieged Buc Co camp. Viet Cong casualties were confirmed by body count while U.S. losses were described as moderate due to the large force involved. The relief column faced nightly Viet Cong mortars and sniper fire as airstrikes continued and 74 enemy weapons were captured.
