A severe electrical storm knocked out transmission lines east and west of Corry, plunging the city into darkness for about three hours. In Somerset Kentucky on August 10 Mrs Pour Owen, 27, of Louisville, was shot on a train near Perryman by Mrs Logan Perkins of Whiteley City during a meeting with Mr Pers. The shooter is believed to have wounded the train's passenger and died later at a local hospital.
William Farnum former film star known for Western roles visited Corry last evening en route from New York City to Cleveland. He stopped at the Elks club praised the town club home as one of the finest in a city this size and continued to Cleveland accompanied only by his chauffeur.
A cloudburst and windstorm in Alliance Sebring Beloit caused about 1 million dollars in damage. A Pennsylvania passenger train No 615 derailed after hitting a washout, killing one person and injuring several. six coaches left the rails as relief trains carried passengers to New Castle and Youngstown. High street floods and debris filled the towns as tracks weakened by recent heavy rain gave way. Names include engineer W A Glasser and fireman J E Jenkins of New Castle, and passengers Mrs Molly Moore and Mrs J Thelen of Youngstown.

Mrs Farnum, visiting with her son Arthur Mek jan and family, returned home in Mayville this afternoon.
Parents of a drowned Pennsylvania State College student received his diploma at graduation exercises. The class honored Stanley W. Holcomb, who died after the summer session opened. The ceremony granted 109 bachelor and advanced degrees, marking the largest graduation at the school in recent times.
An organized gang is suspected to raid Herby towns and villages including Elgin Spartansburg and Union City. The Winmills owned by H J Gleason were robbed of grain and molin valued around 50 dollars. The thieves fled with a cash register emptied by a screwdriver. The trail leads toward the Corry pavement with Beaverdam and nearby villages also affected.
United Press reports Herbert Hoover marking his 64th birthday in Palo Alto with a full day of work. He cleared his desk to finish a farm speech and met with campaign staff, including Hubert Work and George Mosley, to review progress of the Republican presidential bid. A birthday dinner with Washington correspondents followed, then a private family gathering at Hoover's home.
United Press dispatch reports Mt Vesuvius increasing activity with a new eruption mouth forming on Tuesday. The volcano now emits three streams of molten lava as incandescent material shoots into the air. The event follows heightened eruptions and renewed lava output.
Edwin Sturtevant an 18 year old Corry High School alum and son of Mr and Mrs E H Sturtevant Spring Creek died in a Binghamton hospital after a delivery truck wreck while assisting in paper distribution. He sustained a fractured skull and other injuries but never regained consciousness. Funeral and memorial arrangements to be announced by the family who recently resided in Corry and Binghamton.
Chicago Aug 10 George Al Brennan a leading Democrat was cremated with simple rites attended by Governor Alfred E. Smith who had aided him in reaching the presidency. The veteran politician died from septic poisoning after a coma, with services held at All Saints cemetery Des Plaines near Chicago. The funeral followed his final wish for modest ceremony and was described as lacking display. Poison pills killed Albert Miller 18 months old in Easton Pa, after being discarded.
