Pa Country Doctor Makes House Calls in 600-Sq Mile Area

Dr William R Dewar, 53, operates a broad rural practice around Paupack near the Pocono Mountains, making about ten house calls weekly. He travels by four wheel drive to reach patients, aided by two nurses and a clinic staff. His approach keeps elderly patients out of hospitals and reduces costs, with horror stories of hospital stays avoided through timely home care. Dewar relocated from Catasauqua after 25 years, and his family shares a strong medical focus, including a wife who is a nurse and two sons in medical school.
