Construction of a major gas pipeline through Erie County to Buffalo and beyond is set to begin soon. Tonksee Grand Transmission Co and The Price Company of Barnsville will lay a 1 8 mile line from northern Kentucky to western New York, with storage in Dunkirk starting August 14. The 26 mile main line under 700 psi will cross to Ohio, then extend toward Boston, linking with Paragnais Gas lines. Several hundred workers are expected to move into the district as construction commences.

New York report says Wallace resigns from the Progressive Party after weeks of friction. The action ends a long split with the party that had backed Wallace for President. Wallace had attacked the Amnerican stance in Korea and urged a different line before leaving the national committee. The Progressive Party’s state organization voted to back the national committee.
Acker, head of the Civil Defense Committee, announced plans for a September air raid warning test across Pennsylvania. About 3,000 volunteer workers will observe at Harrisburg and Pittsburgh centers, with 14,000 observers overall to report plane sightings to Air Force command. The drill includes state police relay stations and partial to full-time observer staffing as the emergency risks rise. In a separate note, Ray Robinson weighed in at 147 pounds for his welterweight title showdown with Charles Fusari after adjusting weight in Jersey City.
