State Chosen For Crime Insurance Plan
Washington Pennsylvania selected as a pilot state for a federally backed crime insurance trial set to begin August 1. The program offers affordable commercial and residential burglary and robbery coverage through licensed agents, with premiums based on location and crime stats. Other pilot areas include DC, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, Ohio, and Rhode Island.

Shapp Declines Pollution Conference Over River Pollution
Governor Milton Shapp rejected joining a tri state effort to study Ohio River pollution saying such talks delay and hinder enforcement. He cited prior conferences in 1963 and 1965 with no final reports and said Pennsylvania prefers its own enforcement. Also Belle Vernon reports a Monongahela River fish kill from acid water, likely mine or mill runoff, affecting carp suckers and catfish but not game fish.

Baby saved after 3 minute dunking near Pymatuning
A 16 month old boy, Mark Dick of East Lake Ohio, was submerged for about three minutes when a paddleboat flipped south of the Pymatuning causeway. He was reported in good condition and released from Greenville Hospital. His father John S Dick and mother were aboard with James Carroll of Mentor Ohio. Two waterway patrolmen heard pleas and helped.
