Franklin Beats Doctor Shortage in Small Town Franklin
In Franklin Pennsylvania a concerted recruitment drive has drawn 13 physicians in four years with three more on the way, aiming for 25 doctors for about 400 residents each. The hospital backs guaranteed earnings, plus remodeled living spaces and leased clinics, while doctors cite a mix of economics and small-town appeal as key to overcoming national doctor shortages.

County In Clear On Fieldhouse Debts
Erie County Solicitor Peter Schaaf told commissioners they have no legal duty to bail out the Erie County Authority, which faces a $500,000 deficit from fieldhouse construction overruns. He warned refusing aid could risk the county’s triple A rating. The noon session also included the county controller and three Collings Co. financiers. The authority, builder of the Route 8 fieldhouse, owes $500,000 to contractors, suppliers and one local bank for overruns uncovered by a $1 million bond issue.

Gasoline shortages ease as dealers report ample supplies
The Associated Press notes dealers nationwide report plentiful gasoline with allocations at or above 1972 levels. In Southern California Mobil and Standard deliveries exceed 100 percent of 1972, while Maryland and Arkansas show 80–120 percent. Prices average 56 cents for regular and 60 cents for premium, with API arguing production remains domestic and imports would raise costs. Treasury Secretary Simon predicts possible price drops of up to seven cents within a year. A separate London report links arthritis to marriage strain, citing a British council study of six million sufferers and divorces blamed on illness.
