John Manson Owens, 15, Savannah, was rescued after six days in the Grand Canyon where his companions, Rev. Eugene A. Gavigan, 90, and Walter J. Mahany Jr., 16, perished. He described thirst, hunger, a slipping cliff, and the deaths as he was flown to a rim hospital and told how he survived the ordeal.

A 41 year old Bear Lake man Samuel Baker was fatally injured while using a bulldozer to clear a hillside for a ski jump. A lodged limb from a fallen tree struck him on the head. He died at Corry Memorial Hospital shortly before midnight. He was born October 22 1917 in Freehold Township and survived by his wife Opal two daughters Carol and Linda a son Jerome his mother Mrs Frances Baker Corry three sisters and two brothers. Funeral arrangements are set at Bracken Funeral Home with interment at Wrightsville Cemetery.
