Pinchot Fair Rate Board Bills Advance in Harrisburg
In Harrisburg the House prepared final passage of the three Studenmeier fair rate board bills. The House utility committee report urged adopting Governor Pinchot’s plan to abolish the Public Service Commission, replace it with an appointive board, tighten control over securities, and adopt a ten year prudent investment standard for rate making. The measures passed second reading amid a fierce parliamentary fight led by Rep. Studenmeier and Rep. Hermansen, with rival motions to delay or amend defeated by about 30 votes.
