Luge Barns Burned On Wetmore Farm After Lightning

Two barns at Arne Wetmore’s farm near Migin suffered total losses when struck by lightning during a storm. Neighbors fought the flames as livestock were moved to safety. hay and machinery were destroyed. Loss estimated between 4000 and 8000 dollars, partly insured.

Civic League begins activities at parish hall pool

Civic League activities commenced yesterday afternoon at the parsonage of the Methodist church with a convivial outing. Reports included two vacant lots already tendered for care and cultivation and plans to add more in the summer. Ward vice presidents were named to coordinate seed distributions, including Mrs Eugene Amidon, Mrs Thomas Giblin, Mrs James Richards, and Mrs Joseph Spiesman. A plant sale in June and fund raising are planned to support ongoing efforts.

Seven Workers Die in New York Water Project Explosion

In Putty New York on April 27, seven workmen assigned to the Cutukill water system for New York City were killed when thirteen tons of dynamite exploded in a submerged trench a thousand feet below the surface near Valhalla. Twenty others were seriously injured as the blast mangled the victims beyond recognition.

The directors of the Corry Pair and Driving Park Association met last evening to discuss the upcoming season. Race meeting dates were announced for September 14 15 16 and 17 with plans to prepare the track and grounds, and the contract for the annual Fair Book was awarded to Bowe Waters for the pilot seasons.

Gun Battle in Cambria County Leaves Man Surrendering

A gun battle erupted near Filnton in Cambria County after sheriff deputies attempted to arrest Leo Osell and his son Wayne on a minor charge. The O'Sell barricaded their home and fired as deputies approached, lasting nearly an hour. Wayne surrendered. the father is believed to have escaped. More than twenty people joined in the exchange of fire and data around the residence.
