Washington April 24 The War Department said enlisted men aged 42 or over will be discharged from the Army on request. About 50,000 men are 42 or older though those under discipline or needing medical care are excluded. Recalled veterans will be returned for release at the earliest practicable date. Eight seamen were injured in an explosion aboard the Liberty ship John Carver in Philadelphia yesterday.
A new offensive explodes across central Austria as Russian troops seize a third of the city. Other Red forces close in near Brandenburg and southwest of Berlin, signaling a widening campaign.
