Discard Defective Ball Surprises Major Leagues
In a shift after fan protests, A G Spaulding admits defective baseballs issued in the season and pledges replacements within two weeks. Brooklyn and other teams expect a return to the old low scoring style as players anticipate solid wallops and dramatic homers. Later notes cover Corry rifle team upset of Lawrence Park milkmen 845 to 64, Parkers third place, Don Chapman’s standout 104 total, and league standings for Walnut Creek and Prutner Stadium prospects. Obscure items include Agatha cagers, Dur-a history, and spring practice plans, plus trade talk involving Roy Weatherly and Jim Bagby.
