Washington April 26 The Navy denied German claims that the aircraft carrier Ranger had been torpedoed and sunk in the North Atlantic. A Navy spokesman said neither the Ranger nor any other United States carrier has been sunk or damaged in the ocean, rebutting Berlin's Sunday night report.
Richard Spiesman of Titusville, believed to have served on the U S Aircraft Carrier Ranger torpedoed by Germany. He is the son of Carl Spiesman of Titusville and brother of Paul Spiesman, who recently returned from naval duty on leave.
A Berlin broadcast and Associated Press copy claim the 14 500 ton U S aircraft carrier Ranger was sunk in the North Atlantic by a German submarine commanded by Von Bulow while guarding a convoy lane. Ranger launched 1933 fated by Mrs Herbert Hoover. Ottawa reports the Duke of Connaught dies at 28 at Government House.
Bazley succeeds Richard DuPont as head of All-American Aviation Inc. DuPont resigns to lead Army glider program. Bazley, formerly director of aeronautics for Pennsylvania and aviation chief for Allegany County, joined the company in 1939.
Pittsburgh April 46 John M Phillips former president of the State Game Commission urged the adoption of a bill to prohibit rabbit imports into Pennsylvania citing tularemia he warned that importing rabbits from western states could be murder. The bill introduced by Senator John S Waller at the request of Dr T Hope Alexander Pittsburgh health director would bar any further importations of wild hares or rabbits dead or alive.
Across Tunisian and African fronts battles blaze while Moscow churches fill for wartime Easter. The AP describes crowded Moscow houses of worship, London services for American troops, and a global mood of faith amid ongoing conflict.
Charles Swan eight-year-old was burned while starting a tractor at a farm. Fire from a backfiring machine caused an explosion and fire injuring his hands arms and body. He was rushed to Corry hospital around ten yesterday morning in fair condition with recovery expected.
Johnstown Pennsylvania trolley and bus transportation resumed after Johnston Traction Company workers narrowly voted 50 to 49 against continuing their 24 hour strike. The service serves about a quarter million residents including 25,000 steel workers.

Kelayres Pa April 26 Police and volunteers resumed their search for the bodies of two boys believed to have drowned when a raft capsized yesterday on a Glen Alden Coke Company dam. Other boys swam about 500 feet to shore then sought help. Names Louis Lichinsk and House Luchetta, ages 14 each, were among those on the raft.
Washington report says Lieut Gen Kesley J Metate commander of all ground forces was seriously wounded on the Tunisian front. A War Department bulletin said the exact circumstances are unknown and Lt Gen Ben Lowe was ordered from Memphis to assume temporary command. The fighting in North Africa is described as intensifying with hopes for rapid recovery.
BELLEFONTE Pa April 26 Herbert Green a 1 year old Phil a was executed at 12 83 am in the electric chair at Rockview. He was pronounced dead by Dr J W Foster State College one minute after 2000 volts were delivered. Green convicted of first degree murder in the slayings of Melinda Green and Josephine Cobb in 1943. Appeals failed. He asked about reprieve and left a shoes note for a friend. Body claimed by his mother Mrs Geneva Green of Philadelphia.
Warren Pa April 16. Lindsey, president judge of Warren and Forest counties from 1920 to 192, died in a New York hospital after an operation. The funeral will be held in Warren.
Allied war report from North Africa says Axis lines are yielding under American and British pressure. French forces seized western Djebel Mansour and pushed toward coastal plains while Djebel Terhouns and Medjez El Bab saw heavy fighting. Second US and British units reported advances as Patton’s corps and Allied forces press the Tunisian front.
