Railroad seeks permit to discontinue local passenger service

Hearings were held by Public Service Commission officials in Emporium on the Pittsburgh Shawmut and Northern Railroad company request to discontinue passenger train service in Pennsylvania. The line between St Marys and Bredeway and between St Marys and Orean would be affected. The railroad argued highways now parallel the route, with operating costs about fourteen thousand dollars yearly and per mile costs near thirty two cents, while revenue per mile is slightly over a vent. General Counsel Frederic W. Frost of New York represented the railroad, with several St Marys rail men present.
