Richard White and Robert White proprietors of a Damestown distillery suffered a narrow escape when gas fumes overwhelmed them in their heating plant. Fire brigade and workers assisted them, with both men resuming work after medical checkups.
United Press reports that additional US armed forces may be sent to Nicaragua after a band of unidentified Nicara guns reportedly captured three American owned gold mines and kidnapped five workers, four of them Americans, in the Pinnapolea mountains. State Department confirmation pending on the mine capture and kidnaping.
Clyde E. Weir, longtime Cory plant manager for United States Radiator Corporation, is named manager of the Dunkirk plant and will assume supervision tomorrow. He succeeds H. Hosking, who returns to Detroit. The Dunkirk plant, larger than the local shop, operates on a normal basis since February. The local branch remains an assembling plant and warehouse under Weir.
Weather in the area shifted from clear morning skies to a springlike glow, then a brief snow storm centered in the region. Intermittent showers followed with further flurries as forecasts warned of continued rain and cooler temperatures into Wednesday.
Two men were shot to death in the coal fields near Pittsburgh on April 24. A third man, a police officer or guard, died from bullet wounds suffered Sunday night, according to morgue reports.
