Farm Home Destroyed as Fierce Forest Fire Rages

A blaze outside Amity on Spartansburg road destroyed the old Beebe farm home and a small rear tool shed within minutes. Mrs Franz and niece Creola Hollineay escaped after being awakened by a barking dog as flames fed from an overheated chimney. Firefighters faced no water supply and struggled against wind. nearby Maple groves and neighboring property were briefly endangered. Insurance coverage was partial for the Franks.

Montreal April 20 A Ford motor monoplane left Detroit for Murray Bay to aid the stranded Bremen crew reaching Greenly Island. Pilot Floyd Bennett and Bernt Balchen hoped to load pails at Murray Bay for Bremen and skis for an ice landing. They expected to reach in about eight hours and start for Bremen Saturday with extra baggage and supplies.

Death Claims Eli Barlow at Florida Home

Eli Barlow, prominent Corry resident and former mayor, died at his Daytona Beach winter home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Manchester England on August 12, 1836, and built a business career in Corry before expanding to New York and Chicago. Mary Timla alleged proprietress of the Antler hotel on West Main street was arrested for violation of the municipal disorderly conduct ordinance for a second time in a week.
