Herter, undersecretary since 1957, will face Senate confirmation and is seen as likely to keep the existing foreign policy team. He underwent a Johns Hopkins medical checkup and received a positive report despite arthritis concerns.
A trial of 2787 students and adults has TB skin tests. Results show 25 reactors among students, nine borderline, two positive adults, seven borderline. About 170 absent students will take retests Tuesday at Cory Area High School at 9 30 am. No follow up tests planned. X rays for reactors start April 27 at Corry Memorial Hospital with notifications to those due.
A fire swept the Papercraft Corp plant in Pittsburgh East Liberty late yesterday, causing damage estimated at $100,000. Fire Chief Stephen P. Adley said the blaze was extinguished and started by a brush fire.
Vito Genovese, a rackets boss described as mastermind of an international narcotics wing, was sentenced by U. S. District Court Judge Alexander Bicks to 15 years in prison. The 62-year-old Italian-born denaturalized, whose bail was revoked to 150000 and fined 20000, faces automatic deportation.
Adolph F. Borg, noted retired architect known for stone and marble work, died at his daughter's home in Tenafly New Jersey at age 92. He helped design St Patrick’s and St John’s Cathedrals in New York, the National Cathedral in Washington, and several state capitol buildings.
About 160 residents sign a petition to Gov. Rockefeller opposing the Jaquin Dar dam project at Clymer, with some favoring no dam and others a roll top design. Corry State Police identified the drivers as Dennis Peel RD 4 age 26 and Karl Reising RD 4 in a Route 1 collision west of Union City. Peel, westbound, could not stop when the lead car halted, losing control and crashing into the oncoming Reising. Police estimated Peel's damage at 300 dollars and Reising's at 200 to 200 dollars.
The infirmary superintendent will receive 100 dollars monthly through 1051 to oversee development plans and modernization of the institution. A architectural firm Johnson Grey and Associates recommends the appointment and outlines a seven million dollar improvement project. The supervisor will draw 40 500 annually as superintendent and serve jointly with a county official in the arrangement.
In Henderson North Carolina officers of the Textile Workers Union of America and Colton Mills reached a settlement ending a five month strike that disrupted 16 000 workers.
