Two motorists identified in local hit-and-run and reckless driving cases
Police established the identities of two drivers involved in recent incidents. Grant Cogan, driving a car owned by Mervyn Nast, was linked to a hit-and-run at Molt Street and Maple Avenue on April 19, with Viral Tassell of Centerville cited for the hit-and-run charge. Nel Gates of Cory was identified in a reckless driving case where a dog was killed near Main and Center streets on April 11, after the motorist allegedly attacked a pedestrian. A third operator of a black coupe, chased by Patrolman Harley Drake, remains at large after a high-speed pursuit through Center Street corridors.

Mont Alto Forest Fires Reach 1000 Acre Threat
Students from Mont Alto forestay school helped bring under control a blaze covering about 1000 acres near Laurel Lake. Other fires named Grey Ridge Pigeon Roost and Tumbling Run swept the region overnight, drawing 60 Carlisle barracks soldiers and 70 Dickinson College volunteers. Local housewives ferried meals to fighters as the Micheaux district endures its worst fire season in 11 years. Two smaller fires the prior week were contained without damage.
