Early shakeup seen in Erie police ranks

Erie April 17 court-ordered the civil service board to remove 15 World War veter ans over age 39 from the Erie police eligibility list and resubmit a new roster. Judge Barnett and Judge Wilts directed adherence to a 1937 rule setting eligibility at 35 and ruled the 18 percent veterans’ preference unconstitutional. The move opens a long-delayed department shakeup as Mayor Darker's stance shifts pending Supreme Court action.
