Liquor Prices Up As Profits Tumble
Harrisburg AP reports that Pennsylvania state liquor prices rise while profits shrink. The LCB, the nation’s largest booze buyer, sees profit into the general fund drop from 83 million in 1975-76 to an estimated 27 million this year and about 20 million in 1977-78 due to inflation, a 9.7 percent sales rise, 6 percent cost rise, and a 1972 ruling mandating uniform markups on wine and liquor. The tax and markup system yields an 85 percent profit over cost.
