Washington AP reports President Carter will restore funding for about half of 30 water and dam projects he had considered scrapping while holding firm on the rest. Congressmen and state officials said word reached them Friday. formal announcements are planned for Monday as few officials expected full rescission.
Quick response by the Elgin Beaverdam Volunteer Hose Company saved the Edward Estep home at Lovells Corners from total loss. Fire Chief Al Cox said the blaze began in an electric hot water tank, with the inner shell saved. estimates put damages at 5000 dollars after 24 firefighters and four pieces of equipment fought the two hour blaze.
In Newkirk Oklahoma Richard Lawrence Hager married Commie Sue Vaughn, 21, ten minutes before receiving a death sentence for the execution style killing of his former wife’s boyfriend. Vaughn had testified against him, helping convict him on February 23.
In Oklahoma District Court Judge Lowell Doggett set June 27 for the execution of 21 year old Hager for murder linked to the estranged wife. Co owners Ray Travaglini of Warren, Ohio. Golfview Manor near Meadville operates the local division and fourteen other Perkins outlets plus 300 rental units in the area.
NBC cancels the 1977 nighttime Emmy broadcast due to widespread boycott threats by stars led by Mary Tyler Moore Valerie Harper and Edward Asner. The dispute centers on control of the academy with Hollywood expelled and a New York regional coalition dominating the rest. The daytime Emmys on May 12 remain planned.
