Joseph W. Grainger 39 of Sumter South Carolina an American aid official with the U S economic assistance mission in Phy Ye Province was captured Aug 8 last by Viet Cong and killed on Jan 12 after a seven day escape assertion by a U S spokesman. Grainger the mission representative and Air Force veteran faced international law violations noted by the U S spokesman.
A 16 year old Mechanicsburg youth is held in juvenile custody awaiting disposition after an accidental shooting killed 12 year old Ralph Z. McLaughlin of Monroe Township near Mechanicsburg. Ballistics matched a .30-06 rifle used by the suspect, who had the weapon nearby while other boys played baseball about a quarter mile away.
