Baseball players seek pension deal amid strike roadblock
In New York, MLB players meet to discuss a retroactive pension offer while owners split over back pay for strike days. Marvin Miller calls the issue a terrible roadblock. Charles Finley and others move toward compromise on pension terms and makeup pay, arguing players deserve full salaries if the 162 game schedule is completed.

Owners Offer Raises Pension Health Care Sum In Strike Talks
The owners' latest money proposal totals 400000 for pension benefits on the pension package, atop their earlier public offer of 490000 earmarked for health care within the broader plan. The strike remains unresolved as both sides seek a fair offer.
Pirates Won’t Get Retroactive Pay, Galbreath Says
Pittsburgh owner Dan Galbreath says retroactive pay is the major hurdle in MLB players strike talks and there will be none for Pirates. He warns the 1972 season may be in jeopardy if talks drag on, as the team favors a calendar-based pay system and argues season start fairness. Joe Brown notes starting late would distort division races and deny a true champion.
