Bing cites a desire for younger, fresher ideas and reflects on bringing black performers and great singers to the Met. Next year he will join City University of New York as a professor.

Anonymous donor funds drug information drive in Atlanta
An anonymous donor backs Atlanta narcotics efforts by paying rewards for tips leading to arrests and drug seizures. Since January about 1000 dollars has been paid, including a 100 dollar reward that helped arrest a suspect and seize heroin, with the donor to replenish funds if results hold. A Crime Commission official notes the approach targets results. Separately in Houston, Police Inspector Caldwell urges media to aid in fighting organized crime, saying progress comes from investigative and intelligence units, not patrols.
