Court strikes down Pennsylvania non public school aid law
A three judge federal panel ruled the Pennsylvania plan to reimburse parents for private and religious school tuition unconstitutional, saying it advances religion. The $47 million a year program, signed by Gov. Shapp, would have funded parents of nonpublic school students. Cardinal Krol criticized the decision as premature, while President Nixon weighed possible measures to preserve nonpublic schooling. Judges Lord Hastie Hannum authored the opinion.
