Many Coal Miners Return to Work Today

Western Pennsylvania miners returned to the pits as holiday shutdowns eased. Daily reports show idle miners dropping from 30 000 to 21 000 with 44 mines employing 12 040 shut down and about 9 000 away from properties. Altoona area reports two mines with 544 workers down.
