Second Miracle Heart Moved Inside Of Body
Two day old LaVar Bordley born with his heart outside his chest has a strong chance of survival after a pioneering operation at Children’s Hospital Philadelphia. Surgeons opened his chest and created space for the heart using a stainless steel arch. The baby remains on a respirator with immobilization and is monitored by Dr C Everett Koop and Dr Robert Kettrick. The case echoes the earlier success of Christopher Wall at the same hospital in 1975 who lived beyond two days after extensive treatment. The Bordleys travel from Wilkes Barre and include three other healthy children. the father expresses cautious optimism while doctors emphasize this is only the beginning of recovery.
