DA Reveals Wiretap Put On His Phone
Erte District Attorney Herbert Whig Jes revealed yesterday that a wiretap had been placed on the DA's home telephone. He said the device was removed and sold, with no determineable responsible party. Johnson, involved in bribery cases, suspected the tap after hearing unusual noises and noted marks on a line near his home. Investigators used portable recorders, but no taps were found. Wiretapping is not illegal in Pennsylvania without law. Johnson favors controlled tapping with court approval and warrants. Legislation proposing such control has been introduced in the state legislature.

Turnpike Ends On Farm Demand From Tiring Owner
Amos Switzer of Braman Oklahoma appeals to Kansas and Oklahoma for help over uninvited guests using his farm along the new Kansas Turnpike. Signs deter drivers but many stray and knock down fences, leading to dangerous encounters on the state line. Switzer notes long telephone bills from cross-border calls and has started locking doors as the issue drags on. Kansas says only signage is possible while Oklahoma defers to Kansas on the problem.

County officials blamed for lack of progress amid unpaid judgments totaling about 21,217 dollars since early 1956. Executions may be unlikely for May, but liens complicate property sales and may still keep some defendants tied up.
