Weekly City Council Session Postponed To Afternoon

The regular weekly City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday after 8:00 p.m. at City Hall is postponed to this afternoon due to a scheduling conflict with the animal convention of the League of California Cities in Long Beach. Six Coronado officials attended the prior event.

Coronado Evening School to Begin Next Monday

Coronado Evening School will start full sessions next Monday with a free tuition series. Courses include The World's Great Books at the high school library Tuesdays 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. and Landscape Painting at Library Park Clubhouse mornings. Spanish Typing Sewing Woodworking and Badminton are also offered by named instructors at specified times and rooms.

Coronado's call for draftees totals 361 registrants. Chief registrar Harry Perkins reported the figure yesterday and noted the nationwide peacetime draft process continues smoothly.

The Coronado recreational center drives its second campaign week to raise funds for a youth club. A dollar from each two dollar subscription is given to the Youth Club Fund and to Coronado High School organizations. Subscriptions support local teens and upcoming events in Coronado.

Public hearing on rezoning ordinance attracts large turnout

The Planning Commission held its second and final public hearing on the rezoning ordinance in the Hotel del Coronado Circus Room. Attendees debated height changes, road and block reclassifications, and expansion of the business zone while noting residents need time to adjust plans. The proposal would modify blocks from single family to apartments and hotels, rezone several avenues, and set a 7000 square foot ground area for most single family dwellings.

Realtors Contribute To Fund Against Proposition 14

Realty Board members gathered after John Cotton of San Diego urged defeat of Proposition 14 on the November ballot. The board voted 100 to oppose the measure, citing housing takings and a proposed million dollars in taxes as objectionable. Nat Gardner, president, introduced the speaker.

Rotary Club Hears Jet Pilot Talk on Jet Planes

Commander E P Aurand, skipper of the jet squadron at Naval Air Station, told Rotarians that jet planes are easier to fly than regular aircraft. He said jets operate on any fuel from kerosene to high octane and can crash land with less risk of injury to plane and pilot.
