Fourteen Mediterranean ships to be relieved this month
Fourteen ships now on duty in the Mediterranean will be relieved this month under Navy policy of rotating vessels. Marine detachments will return to the United States with their ships and an equal number of Marines will join the relief ships. Most relief ships are to arrive at Gibraltar on September 23, 1948, including the Franklin D. Roosevelt and Columbus. Those departing for the east coast on September 24 include Kearsarge Fargo and Juneau.
