Coronado Republicans Attend Luncheon for Senator Knowland

Prominent Coronado Republicans attended a luncheon at the U S Grant Hotel where Senator Knowland spoke on the 80th Congress. He praised bills on Taft Hartley Aid to Europe veterans tax cuts and urged higher military appropriations for San Diego area. Knowland toured Albany with Governors Dewey and Warren and plans a September 15 speaking tour to the Atlantic seaboard. local Coronado attendees included Col James A Irwin and Mrs J D McMullen among others.

Coronado Tax Rates Rise on County and City Bills

San Diego county and Coronado city taxes will raise the burden for property owners. The total rate climbs to 4.52 per hundred, with county at 2.41 and school at 2.11. Coronado city tax up 17 from 1.38 to 1.47, largely for retirement and planning funds. Total county school and Coronado tax increase is 1.13 per 100 assessed value.

Sharks Reappear But Get the Hook Near Coronado Beach

Three sharks weighing over 400 pounds were caught Thursday by youths from a rubber raft near Hotel del Coronado. The catch, sold to a San Diego market, followed an earlier trio and prompted scientists at Scripps Institute in La Jolla to identify the species.
