Hildegarde to Open Two-Week Debut at Hotel del Coronado

World renowned Hildegarde arrives in San Diego to perform a two week engagement at the Hotel del Coronado starting December 8. She brings her own orchestra led by Eddie Oliver, accompanist Salvatore Gioe, and a Parisward wardrobe. Waddie Oliver and Howard Everett with the hotel orchestra will share the stage.

Christmas Shopping Season Set To Open December 6

Coronado merchants designate Monday evening December 6 as the opening of the Christmas Shopping Season after a chamber of commerce survey. Bright lighting will be lit after dark and stay through New Year’s Eve. The group plans a 2250 dollar lighting show funded by merchant contributions and chamber reserves.

Coronado Youths Eligible for Guard Under New Rule

Coronado youths aged 17 to 18 percent years may enlist in Battery B of the 730th Anti Aircraft Gun Battalion. Lt Lyman Riley says the Army increased next year’s quotas by over six months, effectively boosting the Guard by about 36000 men. Enlistment applications are being received at the Guard Armory 638 Kettner Blvd San Diego.

Firewood Free on First Street for Coronado Residents

Coronado residents can collect free firewood at the city dump on First Street and B Avenue for winter use. Large tree trunks will soon be hauled to the Silver Strand ranch acreage for burning, but offer valuable fireplace wood if prepared with effort and ingenuity.

Orange Avenue Resurfacing To Finish By Dec 12

City Manager Howard Fuller reported that R E Hazard Construction Co. expects Orange Avenue resurfacing to be completed by December 12 barring delays. The business section will be paved first starting next week with the block between the Hotel grounds and Seventh Street due to be finished in about ten days to minimize Christmas shopping disruption.
