Coronado Council Talks Ferry Parking and Tax Specialist

Coronado officials and the city council discussed reducing ferry traffic congestion on Orange avenue with plans to hire a tax specialist to audit county spending. They authorized purchase of 20 parking meters near the ferry and set a future budget timing change to align tax rate setting with budget needs.

Beal Boy Wounded by Explosion on Coronado Beach

Stanley and Arthur Carson, aged 13 and 15, of 1421 Sixth Street, narrowly escaped serious injury after a wooden float they found exploded on Coronado Beach. Stanley lit the fuse, causing burns to his face, chest, and back. Arthur also injured. Police cannot determine the float's origin and urge caution with unknown objects on beaches.

Monty Lewis to Speak at Coronado Kiwanis Meeting

Coronado hosts La Jolla at Cutler Field tomorrow night in a key late season game. The Islanders aim to rebound after dropping from Prep League No 1 with last week’s loss to Point Loma while remaining strong in the Metropolitan group. Kickoff is set for 7 30.

Four Injured In Automobile Crash Here Monday Night

A Ford driven by Tony Calunga overturned at Glorietta Blvd and Visalia Row at 10 40 PM injuring four occupants. Calunga suffered broken ribs and collar bones while Floyd Silvey Lee Baker and Jim Sturgeon also sustained injuries. Silvey the most seriously hurt, back and hip injuries reported and condition listed as serious. Police cite excessive speed as cause.

Peter Cookson Stars in Broadway Hit The Heiress

Coronado native Peter Cookson now leads a male role on Broadway in The Heiress opposite Wendy Hillyer with Basil Rathbone also in the cast. Life magazine covered the play as a major feature in its November issue. Cookson started as a Coronado High School drama student and appeared in Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre Balboa Park and in films.
