The May Fiesta at Sacred Heart church drew a large crowd with ham dinner served to many. Colorful Spanish themed booths sold handmade items and pies. Altar society president Mrs. Oliver Goldsmith and vice president Mrs. Melbourne McEver welcomed guests. Booths were sponsored by the Catholic Daughters Mothers Club and Holy Name Society. Children hosted Saturday activities with balloons grab bags and surprises. Fathers Purcell and Steck thanked all who contributed to the event.
San Diego State College concludes its dramatic season with John Patrick's The Hasty Heart in the college Little Theatre. The play about a stubborn Scots sergeant at a Burma hospital blends comedy and tragedy and features veteran student-actor John Clark in the lead role.
Edward P. Hogan won the eighth flight and Curtis Hinkle captured the tenth at the San Diego County Amateur Tournament finals. Hogan defeated William Quigley of the San Diego club, while Hinkle beat Comdr. G. K. Russell of La Jolla. The event drew 140 golfers at the Chula Vista course.
Robert Young Maureen O'Hara and Clifton Webb star in Sitting Pretty in a laugh riot at the Village Theatre with a feature on 20 Years of Academy Awards.
About 65 attended the Westminster Guild of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church for a Mother's Day party by the Women's Association on May 11. The event featured a barbershop quartet, skits, songs, a one act naval station play, and a worship reading with a brief prayer. Refreshments were served and plans for June meetings and future activities were announced.
Mrs H M Drake hosts the Coronado Section of the American Association of University Women at 8 pm Thursday Auditions for the annual music scholarship will be held for a Coronado high school graduating student The award will be made at the senior ceremony by Mrs Ralph Christiansen chair of the Coronado section and Mrs Donald B White chairs the scholarship committee
Special entertainment by the Bonham Brothers' Band will highlight a social party at the Masonic Temple at 9 30 Saturday evening. Sponsored by the Masonic Order with the DeMolay fraternity, the event will include refreshments after dancing and is open to the public.
