New Apartment Owner Named for Betsy Ross Tower

Arthur W. Ruff, a retired educator, was announced as the new owner of the Betsy Ross Apartment at 770 D Avenue. Ruff lived in San Diego for seven years and previously owned the El Toro Motel on El Cajon Avenue. Before retiring, he served as Superintendent of Schools at Hmitville Long Island.

Softwater Service Builds New Coronado Plant

Culligan Softwater Service of Coronado announces a regeneration plant at 1300 Marine Way. Manager Joseph Caterina says the outdoor motif matches the Coronado atmosphere and the building should be completed within two weeks. The firm has operated in Coronado for two years.

Over 4500 View New Ford During Weekend

More than 4500 Colorado residents inspected the new Ford models at Bayshore Motors 1010 Park Place. Manager Roy Freeman credited the turnout to Coronatians and called it without parallel in local new car display history.

Young passes presidential tests for Naval Academy

David B. Young, 20, of 521 Alameda Boulevard, son of Capt. and Mrs. David B. Young, passed the presidential competitive examination for the U S Naval Academy. He leaves next week and will enter Annapolis July 1. He attended Coronado Elementary and Junior High School when the family lived here previously.

Grace Cahill Named Delegate for BPWC Convention

Miss Grace Cahill secretary of the Coronado Chamber of Commerce is selected as delegate to the National Federation convention at Fort Worth July 4 to 9. She will carry Coronado literature and California pranks gifts on Maverick Night.

Styer to retire from Navy in July

Rear Adm. Charles W. Styer, 51, assistant chief of naval operations and undersea warfare authority, will retire next month after 31 years in the Navy. He is the son of Mrs. Henry D. Styer of Coronado and the late Brig. Gen. Styer and says he is young enough to enter business, denying any rift with Secretary Sullivan. Adm. Louis E. Denfeld, 57, will also retire after serving as chief of naval operations.
