Civic Groups Called to Protest Ferry Rate Increase

City of Coronado and the Coronado Chamber of Commerce protested the San Diego and Coronado Ferry rate raise as a public hearing was set for June 25 at 9 30 a m in the San Diego Civic Center. The chamber urged all local groups to send protest letters to the California Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco. Officials will attend the hearing and welcome broader community support.

Dorothea McCall Wins Absentee Vote for Committee Post

Dorothea McCall of Coronado won a Republican County Central Committee seat via absentee ballots, replacing Allison Lutterm an of El Cajon Valley. Col Walden Cheyney confirmed an official count showing a 13 vote majority over Lutterm an, after earlier losing by ten votes. final totals were not available at press time.

South Bay Area Committee Named To Confer With Coronado

The Coronado Chamber of Commerce was notified of five South Bay representatives chosen to discuss mutual transportation issues. Edgar L. Fuller and Jesse B. Baker will represent Imperial Beach Civic Council. A C Powers Vernon P Rye and H A Prebble represent Palm City District Chamber.

Three More Members Added to Chamber As Campaign Ends

The Coronado Chamber of Commerce announced three new members joining last week. They are J. Wines Coffee Company in San Diego, Standard Oil Company of California, and Dr. C. C. Latham. The drive added 140 new members with $3500 in dues paid or pledged.

Scouts Award Night at Court of Honor in High School

Scouts will receive Eagle badges for Jerry Silverman, Charles Brandon, and Robert Chamberlain at the Coronado District Court of Honor in the High School Auditorium. Merit badges go to several members of Troops 35 151 and 141 including Allen Rodes Paul Graff and Charles L Hoar, plus Senior Unit 140 recipients.

First Meeting Of Police Reserve Unit In Coronado

Coronado to form a police reserve unit with about 20 citizens. Police Chief J W Jordan says the group, authorized by the City Council, will meet at the police station to prepare for emergencies and radio operations. They plan twice monthly sessions and training for radio duties.

Safety Council Reviews Orange Avenue Center Strip Plan

Coronado Safety Council members discussed two letters to City Manager Howard Fuller and the city council. They considered painting speed limit signs and reviewed Roland S Hoyt center strip proposals with a safety focus recommending grass rather than flowers or shrubs. Theft of Ship Clock and Barometer At Coronado Yacht Club

Frank J. Kelly owner of the yacht Sanguine reports to police that a clock and a barometer were stolen from the vessel while moored at the Coronado Yacht Club. The burglary was found by Kelly’s daughter during a routine visit. Police Lieutenant Frank Greene is investigating.
