Coronado Writers Hit County Meeting This Wednesday

A Coro nado writers group joins peers from across the county for an 8 p.m. gathering at Betty Crates Den nis home in San Diego. Alice Craig Greene, founder of Coronado Writers, will attend with other members. Greene returns from Hollywood after interviewing Dr. Alfred Kinsey and hosted Anais Nin and Ian Hugo at the Hills hotel.

Lions Club Hears Harbor Official on San Diego Bay

E. J. P. Adams public relations officer for the San Diego Harbor Department spoke at the Colony Cafe to Lions Club members about geological and geographical formations of San Diego bay and harbor. The talk starts a series on the same subject with Mc Holley G. K. Mitchell Ray Wade and Gene Bollinger named as participants.

Col Hunt and family take house in Coronado

Lt. Col. LeRoy P. Hunt Jr USMC has arrived from Camp Pendleton and taken a home at 643 J Avenue Coronado. Mrs Hunt and their sons David and James accompany Col Hunt to the new residence.

Doctors Move Offices From Hotel Del Coronado to Orange Avenue

Dr. Robert B. Austin and Dr. William C. Hamby shift their practice from the Hotel del Coronado to 1300 Orange Avenue on August 1, sharing space with Dr. Albert H. Lahmann. Hamby joined Austin earlier in July after a temporary Ocean Beach stint and academic studies in California and McGill University.

Three Coronadians Alexander MacKenzie Charles Koenig and Mrs Elaine Fowler have enrolled in a Great Books Program seminar leader training course announced by Miss Gabrielle Morton of Coronado Public Library They start August 3 with nine Tuesday evenings at San Diego Evening College Russ and 12th Streets Graduates will lead discussion groups as signups at Coronado library exceed the required minimum and San Diego groups are also forming with AAUW and local companies backing plans

Wake Island Hero Requests Retirement

Col. James P. S. Devereaux, intelligence officer of the First Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, will retire August 1 at his request. He has not regained health since being captured by the Japanese at Wake Island and holds the Navy Cross for his defense there, plus the Nicaraguan Campaign Medal, Yangtze Service and Expeditionary Medals. He previously lived in Coronado while at the Marine Recruit depot before commanding Wake Island in 1941.
