Planning Group To Hear New Coronado Club Plans Tonight

The Planning Commission meets at 7 30 p.m. at City Hall to review the Coronado Country Clubhouse plans for the four and a half million Coronado Beach Hotel and Country Club project. Architect Paul R Williams designs are before the panel for action including a zone variance for the sports structure modeled after Palm Springs Racquet Club. The site is near Eighth Street extending onto the golf course near the No 2 hole. The commission will also study subdivision plans for the golf course remainder.

Lions Club Receives $300 Donation for Guide Dog

Mrs. Margaret Neal of San Diego donated 300 dollars to the Coronado Lions Club to fund a guide dog for a visually impaired person in San Diego County. The money will be held in trust until a suitable recipient is found.

Coronado Service Club Members Hear About Blood Bank

Coronado service clubs gathered 116 members at Hotel del Coronado to learn about the San Diego County Blood Bank. Rotary President A J Gray Jr presided as leaders from Lions Kiwanis and other groups introduced speakers who urged more blood donations and outlined bank activities. Allan Kliauber, Dr G K Askew, and M R Dorus represented the county organization and spoke on needs and operations.

Coronatians Plan New Optimist Club Meet

Twenty two prospective members and current Optimist International delegates from Santa Ana Los Angeles La Jolla and San Diego met Wednesday evening at the Colony restaurant to discuss forming a new Optimist Club in the area.

Coronado Unified approves 1948 49 budget request

A budget of 463 322 for 1948 49 was adopted at the Coronado Unified Schools hearing and sent to county officials for final approval by August 16. The meeting also announced a new local club with leaders including Tomm ie Thompson and Col. Archibald Abel. about 25 non members showed interest.

Coronado council granted permission for a Navy mooring buoy in territorial waters off First Street with ten days notice of removal. City Council Sets 1949 Budget and Tax Rate

The Coronado City Council unanimously set the 1949 tax rate at 1.47 per $100, raising 16 cents to fund the retirement plan. The overall 1949 budget is $389,100 with $249,900 to be raised by direct taxation and $140,200 from other revenues such as parking meters and licenses. The budget breakdown includes maintenance and bond interest, plus retirement funding.

Coronado Chamber Board Meets in City Hall

The Coronado Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met at 8 p.m. on Wednesday August 4 in the City Hall Council Chambers. Attendees included President John Schroeder, George Ford, Kenneth Carson, Arise Hinkle, Alan Laing, Henry Weston, and Watkins. Weston reported Harbor Committee progress on clearing a silted channel, with action likely delayed due to expense. Curtis Hinkle noted survey results from Col. Jo D. MacMullen. Alfred Laing outlined licensing plans for out of town pedlars and vendors and studied South Bay bus service improvements. Next meeting set for noon August 20 at La Avenida Cafe.
