Coronado Water Rate Raise Proposal and Ranch Land Sale

Coronado residents may face higher water rates as California Water & Telephone Company seeks a rate increase to near 1944 levels. The firm plans to formally request the State Public Utilities Commission soon and notes a decline in gross revenue. Separately, a telegraph from Silver Strand Hog ranch co owner Bert Fisher informs Coronado voters a parcel east of the railway could be bought for 175000, while voters previously rejected full site purchase at 206000. Other council actions included traffic ordinance repeal, VFW carnival approval, and a Boy Scouts pool use request.

World renowned conductor to headline Coronado concert series

Dr. Nikolai Sokoloff, famed former Cleveland Symphony conductor, will lead the Coronado Music Society summer program at the Hotel del Coronado. The opening concert features guest soloist Joseph Schuster with Schumann's Concerto in A minor, backed by Southern California musicians and Hollywood studio players. Doors open 8:30 pm for a 4:30 pm start.

Property Owners Protest Revised Assessment Figures

City Council acting as a Board of Equalization heard protests over Coronado re appraisals. Col. A D Challacombe and Col. Otis Cole challenged figures of four cents and six hills per square foot for their properties. Civic Projects To Be Discussed By Coronado Chamber Of Commerce

The Coronado Chamber of Commerce will hold a noon meeting at La Avenida Cafe to discuss mutual problems with South Bay communities and plan bus service links via the Strand. Attending will be Imperial Beach Civic Group and Palm City District Chamber of Commerce, plus updates on the Coronado Beach Hotel and Country Club project and committee reports.

County Supervisor Discusses Tax At Lions Club

County Supervisor James Robbins spoke at the Lions Club on tax use and county expenditures. He noted eight million-dollar spending versus a 1940 half-million budget and attributed part to a high divorce rate increasing care for children. He highlighted 36 parks and beaches and 70 schools aiding a summer camp program, plus a 393,525,920 property valuation with over 23 million in exemptions and more than half of county land tax free due to government holdings.

Paper Drive Aids Coronado Junior Traffic Patrol

Millar stages another paper drive to raise funds for uniforms for Coronado's Junior Traffic Patrol. With 20 to 30 Club members assisting, residents are urged to place old newspapers and magazines at the curb for pickup tomorrow and Sunday.
