The Coronado Music Society reports $3029 raised toward a $6000 maintenance fund as they plan a five concert summer series under Nikolai Sokoloff. Plans include possible use of Hotel del Coronado ballroom and shared programs with Chula Vista.
A Bureau of Internal Revenue agent will be at City Hall today and tomorrow to help residents prepare income tax reports. Service is free. Tax returns are due by March 15, 1948.

Frank Gonzales commander of the California VFW arrives for the dedication of General Henry D. Styer Post No. 2422 VFW at 557 559 Orange Avenue. The ceremony at 2:00 PM Sunday will feature the Drum and Bugle Corps of the First District and city officials.

Angry residents and mothers flooded Coronado City Council chambers seeking clarification on a San Diego newspaper's claim that their homes in the Coronado and Erie housing projects are unsightly unsanitary and crime breeding slums. The council denied the accusation and cited two years of talks with federal officials on disposing of 744 temporary housing units by July 25 1949.
Kiwanis will hear Robert Wilson sales manager of the Simon Levi Co speak at the La Avenida Cafe at noon on Why Can t I Get Yellow Margarine The talk is sponsored by the National Cotton Growers Assn American Soy Bean Assn and American Margarine Assn for the American consumer. Last week Irene Costo acting superintendent of the Anthony Home spoke to a full house noting Navy headquarters in San Diego draws youths and possible delinquents. The Kiwanis paper drive by Pop Millar raised funds for children s shows and other projects. Guests at the prior meeting included J W Jordan Coronado Chief of Police Max Forney elementary principal and Dr Werner Lehllmann plus visiting Kiwanians.
Arthur L. Chytrus joined Melbourne L. McEver and Mrs. Mary L. Davis on the council race short list last Thursday. Brig. Gen. Gilder D. Jackson USMC has announced his intention to run though nominations are not yet filed. Chytrus petition was circulated by Curtis R. Hinkle and signed by eight registered voters. Incumbents A. A. Mathewson City Clerk and J. H. Quartly City Treasurer also seek re election on the April ballot.
The Coronado Merchants Association board met last Thursday in the Parish Hall of the Presbyterian Church and voted to retain the current officers until the next membership election. Roy Smith moved that annual dues be six dollars, payable quarterly, and that members who fail to pay may be dropped from the Association by a board vote.
Oliver Wetherbee Chapter of the DAR will hear Captain Frederick Nelson USN discuss Compulsory Military Training at the March 1 meeting at 2:30 p.m. in Mrs. F. E. Pierce’s home 1024 Glorietta Blvd. Mrs. James A. Irwin, Regent, will preside at the preaddress business meeting.
