St Augustine High defeated Coronado High 50 to 38 in a non league game at Carruthers Gym. Johnny Kurtz led Coronado with 15 points while Lou Kusle scored 16 for St Augustine. Coronado’s Mark Davis had 18 in a Bees loss that saw a 29-18 halftime gap.

The Coronado City Council and commissions convene on the first and third Mondays at City Hall, second floor. The Recreation Commission meets on the first Monday and Coronado Unified School District holds a board meeting every second Tuesday at 6 PM in the High School auditorium. Beachcombers Cafe Gets New Co Managers

George Nicoloff and Desport Yorgin take over Beachcombers Cafe at 822 Orange Avenue. They promise the same policy of good food and prompt service, bringing years of restaurant experience from Aztec Café in San Diego. Nicoloff, a World War II veteran, began in the business young, aiding his father. Yorgin previously co owned the Aztec Drive In and has broad managerial background.

Coronado Beats Point Loma In League Drive

Coronado High beat Point Loma 30 to 26 at San Diego High Gym to extend a four game streak for second place in the Metropolitan League behind undefeated Sweetwater Grossmont and La Jolla. Kurt Storch scored nine points for the winners after substitutes sparked the late surge. Davis and Lamberton led Coronado scoring 14 and 12 respectively as the Bee quintet won the curtain raiser 43 to 26.
