The Officers Wives of Attack Squadron 54 met for cocktails and dinner at the Commissioned Officers' Mess on North Island. The event included bingo after dinner and is sponsored monthly by different squadron wives with Mrs. P. J. McVeigh named sponsor last Tuesday.
Igor Gorin opened the Coronado Community Concert series to a capacity audience. A rich mix of Russian and American pieces showcased his heroic tenor with baritone strength, especially in Moussorgsky and Ukrainian selections. Encores included Sing Song of Sixpence and Lord's Prayer.
Mrs. Phyllis Decker invites Coronado art lovers to a 3 to 6 p m preview of paintings at the Del Mar Turf and Surf Club Hotel Del Mar. The exhibit, sponsored by Decker Studios Hollywood, features international artists including John Decker Piaggi Hanozeki Powell and Hollywood notables. The show runs through December 17.
A school auditorium night staged a high fashion oriented show with Angelica and associates in glamorous gowns. Notable cast include Joan Kaitner Barbara Ann Dow Virginia Eby Ann Magley and Wanda Huffman with a fashion writer Ann Harvey. Behind the scenes praise goes to Mrs. Esther Hagstrom Art Dept and Paul Corriere.
Nearly 800 reservations already booked for Hildegarde’s two week engagement in the Circus Room at the Hotel del Coronado opens tonight. An hour long show in three parts features a mid set audience interview and a rose given to the chosen man. prominent Coronado guests and navy officers plan multiple Saturday night gatherings and private dinners around the performances.
The Coronado Club hosted a birthday party Saturday night for Mrs Ruby Girault and Lt. Comdr. 8 B Hindman. Guests included Mrs Hindman, Lt. Comdr Hindman, Mrs E P Flynn, Mrs Lloyd Jurgen, Mrs Marian Pennington, and Mrs Dotty Elmsted. Mrs Girault has stayed at the club for a year and will join her husband in Long Beach after his Pacific tour.
Monty Lewis announces two sound films at the School of Fine Arts on Margarita Avenue. The Friday program at 8 p m features Le Grand Verrier by Martinet the French glassmaker and Treasure Trove an English film on National Geographic discoveries including the largest collection of American jade ever found.
Coronado clubs list upcoming meetings and events from Coronado Lodge 338 Odd Fellows to Soroptimists to Toastmasters. Highlights include Coronado Yacht Club annual meeting on Tuesday, Catholic Daughters of America at Sacred Heart parish hall, and Women’s Society sewing bee at St Paul’s Methodist Church.
Gus Arriola creator of the Gordo comic strip to speak to Coronado Section of the American Association of University Women at 8 p.m. December 16 at Marion Meyers home 1717 Monterey Avenue. He will present each guest with a copy of the famous Gordo recipe Beans with cheese.
Christmas gifts are on view at the Coronado Art Gallery located at 1115 Orange Avenue. The Coronado Art Association members display oils watercolors Chinese brush paintings and etchings by Rosa Hooper Esther Hagstrom E F Ingrie Ella B Ingle Col John K Martenstein Ruth Wheelwright William K Edwards S R Stedt M van Valkenburgh Henrietta Williams Mary Lillian Berry Eleanor Wilkevich Maude Schumacher Andrea Hine and Dorothy Seavey.
Lt. Leroy Canedy has arrived in Saipan and asks his wife Elinor to take the next boat to the Marianas as housing is favorable. He will grant her fifteen days of leave upon her arrival after two years of prior service in the South Pacific.
The Business and Profession Woman's Club plans two events in December. A party for the Gramm School's Safety Service Organization will take place at 8 p.m. December 15 in Library Park club, and a members party will follow at the home of Miss Rita Burford and Martha Fishback on December 17. The club collects rags for rug making to aid the Old People's Home, with donations welcome by Mrs Florence Brown of the Chamber of Commerce.
The Coronado Woman's Club will pack and ship toys crayons go paint sets clothing items to Navajo Indian children for the Christmas party at Hunters Point School St. Michael Arizona. The project led by Mrs. W R Nichols started via correspondence with Mrs. R N Winsor and received support from Mr A Gray who sent oranges for distribution in stockings.
