Capt Daubin Visits Parents After Alaskan Trek

Capt F A Daubin Jr USA and his wife Mrs Daubin with their sons stay at Rear Adm Daubin’s home 1118 Flora Ave. He departs September 4 for Japan with the Army. Mrs Daubin and children plan three months in Prescott Arizona before following. They earlier drove to Alaska via the Alcan highway, built a log home and endured severe cold and mosquitoes before returning to service.

Admiral Ross McIntire Vacationing in Coronado

Vice Admiral Ross McIntire retired USN arrived in Coronado for a several weeks vacation from Washington DC via Atlanta where he conducted Red Cross National Blood Bank business as a director. His wife Mrs. McIntire is already in Coronado with her mother Mrs. M. B. Palmer at 811 Tenth Street, a noted Red Cross knitter for the Coronado branch.

Chares Edward Ferris 25 of 740 Orange Avenue San Diego will be buried at Ft. Rosecrans after services at Benbough Mortuary. He died in a car motorcycle crash while visiting Auburn. Sharks Caught Off Coronado Beach Attract Crowds

Fishermen John Juanico Buster Cronin Jimmie Ryan and Harry Morrison hauled three 150 pound sharks onto a trailer near Hotel del Coronado. They sold the catch to a cannery for animal food as onlookers gawked at the big fish. Leo Theiner heard a guest boast of world travel and a 12 pound halibut was speared offshore by David Chandler, a 114 year old, according to Theiner.

Thompson Heads West With Film Folk On Weekend Trip

C V Thompson of the Colony Restaurant returned Monday after a weekend in Mexico and Pasadena. He flew to Ensenada Saturday in a DC-3 owned by Glen McCarthy with Dennis Morgan and Jack Carson from Warner Brothers. The party fished, admired the Pacific hotel, and spent Sunday night at Morgan's Pasadena home. Morgan and Thompson have hunted together many seasons.

Amphibious Ships Win Battle Efficiency Pennants in San Diego

In San Diego Harbor the USS LST 845 and the USS Begor APD 127 earned the Battle Efficiency Pennant. Admiral Rodgers praised the crews for their hard work and enterprise. Present were Rear Admiral Fischler and Captain Huffman.

Coronado council defeats a motion to lift the polio ban amid safety concerns. Dr. Booth urged lifting after no new cases but the council seeks reconsideration. Police promotions confirmed with Brandes acting sergeant during Jeffers’ military leave. Civil Service work reassignments and a proposed picketing ordinance are under study. Sloan Vacationing at Hotel del Coronado with Mrs Sloan

Alfred P. Sloan Jr of New York City chairman of General Motors and Mrs Sloan have stayed a week at the Hotel del Coronado and will remain for the rest of the summer. Sloan led GM as president for 14 years before becoming chairman in 1937. He began his career with Hyatt Roller Bearing Corp.
