Navy Widows Here Circulate Petition For Pension Raises
A group of Navy widows in the city circulates a petition urging California Senators and Representatives to back pension increases for dependents of veterans. In 1946 Mary DeVan spent weeks in Washington to persuade lawmakers that 75,000 war widows and 100,000 children cannot live on current pensions. The proposal would raise the widow’s pension from 60 to 75 and each minor child’s from 18 to 40. Mrs. Nelson and her committee urge action and ask signers to write their Congressman.
