Whitmore Named Recreation Director for Coronado
Richard C. Whitmore, ex Exeter recreation superintendent, is appointed Coronado Recreation Director effective April 25. He replaces W. T. Vandiver who left for a Los Angeles suburb. Whitmore has served Visalia and Los Angeles areas and has been active in Boy Scout work. The council also filled two vacancies on the City Recreation Commission.

Coronado National Guard to demo heavy anti-aircraft gear

Coronado Music Society to award 1949 Ford in skill contest
The Coronado Music Society announces a contest of skill to benefit the maintenance fund. Contestants pay an entrance fee and fill in song lyrics for a chance to win a 1949 Ford club coupe. The winner will be named June 8 by San Diego Bay area judges. County counsel says the county may issue bonds for a bay tube but cannot purchase or place the ferry system in the county highway system. Officials say no city action until the Board of Supervisors notifies the Council of its decision.

At the Tuesday session the City Council unanimously adopted an annexation ordinance extending Coronado city limits along the Silver Strand to Fort Emory. A 1-4 vote defeated a proposal to fund paving on B Avenue with State Highway taxes. Melbourne McEver supported annexation and zoning changes proposing apartments on Block 7 and business on Block 8.
