Corona faces the Anaheim Husky nine in a Sunday baseball clash at the Second and Merrill grounds starting at 2 o clock. The local team aims to repay a recent defeat with a clean game and a lively afternoon of sprints and field events in support.
Prado September 16 report notes a brush fire on Brent ranch was extinguished after rapid spread threatening nearby properties. Rincon valley and Prado schools reopen with Pioneer set for the 20th. Residents George Branch, Mrs. T B Ross, William Hatfield and others are mentioned with travel and health news.
Miss Pearce West daughter of Mrs Nelie West died at her mother's home on Wednesday morning. A Wisconsin native she had lived in Corona for several months. Funeral services led by Rev Beso B Cliff of the Methodist Church were held at 4 p m from Davis undertaking parlors. Interment followed at Sunny Slope cemetery.
Corona's city council fixed the forthcoming year's tax rate at 1.69. The general fund will receive 1.00, bond tax 0.64, and library 0.15, based on a total assessed valuation of 3,002,052 after a 40 percent hike.
The Citrus Protective League moves to challenge a November 1 rate increase from $1.00 to $1.15 per 100 pounds for California lemons to eastern markets. Orange rates may rise to $1.25, drawing opposition from growers who warn higher costs will cut profits and discourage new groves. The league plans to file data with the Interstate Commerce Commission while urging action against the railroads.
Real estate notes from Corona show multiple sales and building plans. Loyal Kelley sells to Miss Olive Clark for 400 with a 1500 bungalow planned. J L Davis sells near North Howard for 200 and to Minnie Schinke for 300 with a build. E J Genereux sells two Boulevard tract lots to Harry Baker for 350 each. Palm avenue bungalow planned at 2500. Additional transfers include a series of lot sales on Mountain View, McGillivray and Fourth and Victoria, with builders and purchasers aiming to erect homes. Wively and Hull list North Main and Boulevard lots and several other transfers totaling modest sums in recent days.
Temescal lodge No 314 F A M conferred the Master Mason degree on two candidates last evening. Evergreen lodge of Riverside provided a visiting degree team of 25 to 30 brethren. The team trains for the Grand Lodge session in San Francisco October. The Ladies of the Eastern Star hosted an elaborate banquet followed by remarks from speakers chosen by the toast master Prof. W. A. Doron. It was a highly pleasant, memorable gathering.
