Corona gears up for a grand opening tomorrow as Glass Bros joins J. W. Veach & Son in a new 15000 square foot store on Sixth Street. The event includes souvenirs and a concert in the hall above the store, with promises of a memorable celebration and a top to bottom modern display of appliances.
The Ladies of the W. C. T. U. hosted Miss Lucy Corkhill at Mrs. J. P. Rice's Ramona Street home for a package shower. Gifts included a house in the Happy Valley Addition to Guy of Content, promising the couple will reside locally. The event was a surprise and well arranged by the organizers.
Miss Dena Cooper hosted a whist party Saturday night at her Corona home in honor of Mrs. Emerson of Los Angeles. Red geraniums and green pepper boughs decorated the rooms. Miss Elizabeth Andrews won the ladies prize and Mr Ed Chandler the gentlemen’s prize. Grape ice refreshments provided afterward.
The big gasoline engine at Flagler packing house was moved yesterday to the company's Temescal ranch to power a centrifugal deep well pump. A large electric motor will soon be installed at the packing house.
Veach and Sons highlights three aims new store design good taste and convenience. The shop features modern fixtures perishable and loose groceries in dust tight compartments heavy mission style showcases and a ladies waiting room. Managers plan larger assortments quicker service and continued merchandise improvements for Corona shoppers.
A list records visitors staying at Corona hostels since last Saturday. Names include W. A. White and wife, E. A. Hoffman and wife, L. A., Geo. Rk. French, Riverside and many more from Los Angeles and surrounding cities, with affiliations to hotels such as Hotel Del Rey and The Alden J. Kirmner.
A Glass Bros delivery horse bolted Monday while I L Strowger unloaded at a Ninth and Sheridan site. The frightened animal franticly circled the Boulevard and Belle, then swung toward town center, where bystanders halted it. It slipped past the post office, tearing a shaft end but the plate glass window remained intact and the wagon suffered only minor damage.
The Corona Gas and Electric Co. installed 160 new 40 watt tungsten lamps and regulators, replacing 32 candle power lamps to improve street illumination. The $70 upgrade aims for steadier current and better service with plans for larger future improvements.
The Corona Tennis Club announces a September 9 Admission Day tennis tournament on club grounds starting at 9 am. Prominent city players are expected. tickets cost 25 cents for all-day use. Entry closes September 6 and fees apply.
Riverside County officials attended a State Board of Equalization hearing in Los Angeles where no final decision was made. Evidence centered on Riverside orange groves and property values, with comptroller Nye noting improved statewide prosperity and strong fruit shipments.
Corona outscores Elsinore 2 to 1 in eleven innings on the road as Morrison drives in the go ahead run and Buell adds a two base hit. Glass limits Corona to seven hits while Morrison racks up 16 strikeouts in an errorless, sportsmanlike battle. Next Sunday Corona meets Anaheim at Anaheim with round trip fare set at 1.15 and a call for strong rooter support.
