City Trustees Plan Improvements To Main and Ninth Streets

City trustees moved to proceed with Main Street improvements after bond sales. A Ninth Street petition against the work was found largely invalid, allowing the project to continue. Trustees discussed Joy Street and Grand Boulevard heavy hauling and proposed an ordinance regulating loads and tire widths.

Tribute To Departing Pastor Wentworth In Night Service

More than 300 attendees gathered Tuesday at the First M E church parlors to honor Rev Charles Wentworth and his wife as they depart for Bakersfield. A short program featured piano, readings, songs, violin, and a speech by Rev I B Brodrick. Gifts of a silver cream ladle, gravy spoon and a silver chafing dish were presented, with thanks offered by Mr Wentworth and a toast to their future happiness in California.

Young People's Branch of U P B Formed in City

An organization named the Young People's Branch of the Woo bP U was formed Friday evening at Mrs. Juliet Powell Rice's home on South Ramona Street. Officers elected include Superintendent Mrs. J P Rice President Tarry Whitcomb Vice President Mrs. J S Mayfield Secretary Harold Reynolds Corresponding Secretary Marion Martin Treasurer Chester Trusted. May Grow chairs social committee with Miss Bethel Smith and Clarkson McNary as members. Meetings planned monthly and civic work noted. The first meeting will be Thursday at Mrs. R V Roelofs house 017 Washburn St for a set-together social.

Roberts Family Enjoys Auto Trip Through Southern California

Photographer and Mrs H H Roberts and their son completed a two week car tour through Corona San Diego Warner's ranch Oceanside San Luis Obispo Mission Pala San Juan Capistrano and Ventura They photographed sites observed bean harvesting methods near Ventura and reported 850 miles at 19.05 mpg with no tire punctures and no hotel stays, camping each night for comfort and savings.

The California Jubilee Quartet performed at the First M. E. church in Corona with a crowd in attendance. Pot ce Payne drew praise for his dual voiced style while Ivan Ht. Browning led solos with tribute to Rev. Wentworth. Rev Wentworth and Rev Reynolds spoke as the crowd enjoyed readings and music by A Graham replacing Stewart. The service closed with Blest Be the Tie That Binds.
