Good Roads Group Seeks Survey for New Corona Route

The Riverside County Good Roads Committee plus local officials and ranchers toured land north of Corona to assess a direct route linking to Wineville. They discussed routing via a draw and a potential bridge plan to reduce grades and avoid ROW issues, urging a joint survey and cost estimates.

Corona shooting report shows few arrests this month

City Recorder O P Hull and City Marshal G C Alexander face a thin board meeting report after a busy month with surprisingly few arrests. A 60,000-strong crowd witnessed an event on the 9th and only two intoxicated individuals were taken in. Local residents note a drop in nighttime gunfire as Corona emphasizes lawfulness and a $50 carry-and-shoot fine for Mexican newcomers. Man Arrested in Corona Set Free

M Robbins, once paraded as a theft suspect for a $2000 belt, was freed after claim and investigation cleared him. He testified he received railroad injury settlement money, bought a ranch in Corona, and awaited Oakland dismissal. he planned to reunite with his wife awaiting him in Corona.

Cooper Wins 100 Mile Kern County Speedway Race

Karl Cooper in the Sturdy Stutz won Bakersfield’s hundred mile event at Kern County Fair speedway. Nearly four thousand spectators watched his 143:06.5 time. Tony Janette finished second in a National, J S Waterman third in a Buick.

Fire Destroys Hay Barn and Lumber Yard in Corona

Fire swept a North Washburn Street barn owned by T Newton with contents valued at 700 dollars and hacked a Corona Lumber Co yard, damaging cement lime and timber worth about 4200 dollars. The blaze spread from baled hay to adjacent properties before firefighters stopped it. JL Lambeth, a local lineman, saved two telephone poles and prevented a wider outage by spraying water with a garden hose despite city rules. The origin remains undetermined with a theory of smoldering embers from Saturday night.

Real Estate Move In Venice Sells 65 Acre Bloom Ranch

One of the largest deals in months sees J V McCleish trade the 65 acre alfalfa ranch on North Main for 82 500 in Venice property. Blanche Brown Sargent acquires the Bloom Ranch redirects with a 25 500 four story furnished apartment house on Mildred avenue. Another sale reports a six room house at Sixth and Merrill to Joe Clapp for 2500. Martha J Blackburn is former owner.

Motor race crash and match race outcome report

On lap thirteen the Stutz No 2 suffered a blow out causing the Overland to slip off course and crash into dirt. Mechanic Reed sustained serious injuries while driver MecKelvey was unharmed. A side bet race between Tony Janette and Felix Magone was won by Magone. The Overland driven by Crawford won the 25 mile event with Buick and Maxwell following.

A Corona Chamber of Commerce meeting in the Corona National Bank building drew a large turnout. Attendees included Supervisor of Portola, WW Pentelow, FOO Ott, and many local officials. A spirited discussion followed about bonds and district needs for building and roads.

Charivari for Newlyweds on West Kevill Street

A large crowd celebrated Mr and Mrs Lewis with a Tuesday night charivari on West Kevill Street. The couple arrived on the 12 58 train from San Pedro and Los Angeles. Younger celebrants caused mischief but the groom quelled the row with soda and cigars as guests entered for the party. Mrs Lewis spoke of her happiness and prior California ties, while a prior boat incident with red bows was recounted with humor.
