A Grand Army veteran from 1861 to 1865, he has traveled America, met presidents after Lincoln, and educated for ministry. He advocates Indian rights and Western frontier insight, with ties to President Roosevelt and a Pima investigation committee.
The Santa Fe reports April freight totals surpass March by about 100 carloads, though March still topped all prior months since fruit shipments began in November. Detailed figures follow in the report.
James L. Davis purchases the furniture stock of W. S. Clayson and will sell it from the present location as he moves into new quarters near Seventh and Main streets. Clayson will not return to business this summer and plans to stay in Corona.
G ROuse & Co of Riverside California advertises a mail order blank printed on page two. The notice emphasizes a thoroughly systematized order department and encourages customers to use the form for efficient service.
City Trustees met in adjourned session with Holmes Collier and Smith present. The High School tract subdivision was rejected for irregular maps. Louis Ferrill and Thomas Crawford won the Sixth street improvement bid about 27,580 total, with notices to be posted. Rent for town offices was raised to 12.50 monthly, and alternative spaces were sought.
At a special meeting the City Trustees backed a Board of Trade proposal to send committees to other towns to study a proposed public improvements bond issue. They also authorized sewer system plans and cost estimates, and granted building and sidewalk permits.
C K Prahman a longtime Marshall Field & Co. executive spent Tuesday night and part of Wednesday in Corona as a guest of Mr and Mrs H C Cree. Prahman who has charge of the whole is visiting local friends during the trip.
Members of the First Church of Christ Scientist have purchased the J B Backman property at the corner of Eighth and Victoria streets for 2100. A new church building is planned for the near future with the existing cottage to be used for services until arrangements are completed.
Henry Magee of Rincon who faced an assault charge and had pleaded guilty declared himself not guilty before District Attorney Evans. Described as a problematic drinker, Magee received sixty days in jail with the option to leave the county. He chose to depart and return home to gather belongings to move to Yorba, escorted by an officer. An interlocutory decree of divorce was granted to Mrs. Magee.
Geo. L. Ferguson of the Red Front Grocery has organized a Heinz propuets demonstration at his store. The event will be held tomorrow with public invitation. See advertisement on page 4.
The Ladies Guild of the Episcopal church will hold a midsummer sale at F. A. Perkins store on Main Street on Wednesday afternoon May 22. Aprons will be offered in multiple styles and the delicacy table will feature assorted treats. All are welcome.
Corona man A. Robe has his patent for improvements in a baking oven heating device finally granted. The application was filed August 10 of last year and allowed May 4, illustrating delays at the patent office.
Daniel Lord sells a five acre lemon grove on Olive Street between Main Street and Carretson Avenue for 5000 dollars. The deal reflects strong values in Corona property as noted in local reports.
An exhibit will be held in the second grade room of the school building next Friday afternoon the 24th. Patrons are invited to call and inspect the exhibit at any time during the afternoon.

The National Paint and Color Factory on Olive near Main, run by Wim Dyer, will expand its output threefold with new machinery. Dyer owns a Gypsum mine and southern Temescal canyon ranch lands, with plans to irrigate 1000 acres, grow barley hay, cultivate truffles, and develop a cement and paint enterprise using local resources and a water-powered system.
The Woman's Improvement Club met at Mrs. G F Dean's home to discuss a community clean up day. Members proposed stores close for a day and residents clean yards and alleys. civic committee to present to the Board of Trade.
Ground was broken Monday for a 60 foot brick block on Main Street lot owned by Daniel Lord. The building will join Lord's real estate office and is designed for a Hrat-clays restaurant, for which a lease is reported secured. Interior aims at patron comfort with first class service.
Bloom a prominent library builder from Corona and Ontario linked to the Charemont project is offered a contract to erect the Red Bluff library. Uncertainty arises due to delays in the Charemont site and railroad impacts, leaving Bloom’s decision unspecified.
